This smartphone app uses sophisticated location-based services and notifies subscribers, who have indicated they are CPR trained, that a sudden cardiac arrest event is nearby. The alert is triggered by the 911 center while Albuquerque Firefighter EMTs and paramedics are dispatched.
The app uses advanced GPS technology to notify subscribers within a quarter mile of a cardiac arrest event and where the closest automated external defibrillator (AED) is located. Businesses, schools and other public sites with an AED can register the location of their device to help someone going to into cardiac arrest more quickly, which can save someone’s life.
More than 1,000 people a day have a cardiac arrest event, and emergency responders can’t always get to people in time. This app alerts CPR-certified people who are nearby that can help until EMTs arrive. The Pulse Point app can actually do more, too, including alert notifications for rescue, flooding and natural disasters as well as aircraft emergencies, all by clicking the topic in app. Pulse Point has now been implemented in 4,259 cities.
