Kids in grades 1-6 have until Sept. 30 to register for the Upward Sports basketball league. Player evaluations for girls and boys in grades one and two are Monday, Sept. 26, at Sandia Presbyterian Church inside the Family Life Center Gym. Evaluations continue Tuesday, Sept. 27, for kids in third and fourth grades and Wednesday, Sept. 28, for grades fifth and sixth grades. All sessions run from 4-8 p.m. in the gym.

Registration is $150 per player with practices beginning the week of Nov. 7 and the first game the second week in January. Parents and guardians registering more than one child will receive a $10 discount for each additional player.

The Upward Sports website says its mission is “promoting the discovery of Jesus through sports.” Upward Sports partners with churches across the country to help leverage “the power of sports to achieve and increase the impact of their mission.” Sandia Presbyterian Church was chartered in 1990 using Dennis Chavez Elementary School as its temporary home until groundbreaking took place at the current 10704 Paseo del Norte location in 1992.
