Registration is now open for free basketball and volleyball winter leagues at the YMCA.

The leagues are open to kids ages 8-17.

The youth volleyball league, which is co-ed, will teach players the fundamentals of volleyball, sportsmanship, teamwork and healthy habits while sharpening skills like spiking, setting, blocking and serving through practicing drills and having fun.

The YMCA Basketball League has both competitive and non-competitive leagues that will focus on developing children’s skills and overall enjoyment for the sport of basketball. Teams will have experienced and trained coaches for all age levels. All teams will have one set practice night per week and one game per week with a playoff tournament at the end of the year for competitive play. Practice schedules will be announced. All teams will be guaranteed at least one practice the week prior to the league start date. Grades kindergarten through third are co-ed. Grades fourth through 12th will have separate leagues for boys and girls. Games may be played at the YMCA, local area schools or nearby churches.

In both leagues, teams will practice once per week and play eight games per season, in addition to a season-ending tournament. YMCA is also looking for volunteers to coach in both leagues.

Registration ends when all teams are filled or on Nov. 30 and can be done in person or online.
