The Elevated Roller Derby league in Albuquerque is offering a unique bootcamp where patrons can learn how to skate, how roller derby works and meet the elevated league.
Elevated Roller Derby participates in community service efforts and has participated in several of activities that support local charities and nonprofits.
All genders and skate levels ages 18 and up are welcome to join. If people don’t want to skate and just want to learn about roller derby, the league invites folks to bring a seat and watch.
Due to the sport’s high contact, proof of vaccination is required to participate. Other items needed to participate include sneakers, water, sunscreen, a fitted mouthguard, skates, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and a helmet.
Some gear, including skates, pads, wrist guards and helmets, will be available for rent for a deposit of $50, which will be given back upon return. They will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and it cannot be guaranteed skates will be available in all sizes.
The event runs 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Heights Community Center on 823 Buena Vista Dr SE.
