The ruts and divots left behind from previous road work are finally being smoothed out along Wyoming Boulevard between Harper and Spain roads.

Spokesperson for the Department of Municipal Development Scott Cilke said the paving work should be complete by the end of the week. “The work is a thin asphalt overlay of the previously heater Scarified Surface,” Cilke wrote in an email. “It seals the heater scarification and cleans up the appearance and the roughness of the asphalt.”

On Tuesday afternoon, much of the paving work was already complete on the left lanes of both north- and southbound Wyoming. Traffic was down to one lane between Academy and Harper roads and two lanes between Spain and Academy. Lane closures can be expected on both sides of Wyoming. “They are working on both north- and south-bound lanes at the same time,” Cilke said.

Southbound Wyoming Boulevard was down to one lane between Academy and Harper roads on Tuesday.

“The paving work is scheduled to be complete this week,” Cilke added. “Striping and utility adjustments will follow but should not restrict traffic as much as the paving operation.”

No advance warning of the operation was given on the city’s biweekly traffic report because of when the materials were received. To find out about other road work going on around the city, visit the cabq.gov/municipaldevelopment/maps/traffic-report and download the current traffic report.
