The kindness of giving out candy can extend beyond just one night of the year and can be the little treat that helps someone get through a tough day. Street Safe New Mexico hopes that kindness extends to the women it serves by seeking Halloween candy donations.

Those stumped on what to do with their Halloween candy leftovers can give back to the community with Street Safe New Mexico, which is asking for leftover candy donations. People without leftover candy who want to make a donation can take advantage of post-Halloween discounts.

Street Safe New Mexico caters to helping homeless women, who are often human trafficking survivors, with donations that have women in mind, such as self-defense tools, hygiene products and haircuts at their Street Safe salon. The organization also keeps a “Bad Guy” list of known human traffickers in the city to give women living on the streets the know-how to be safe from these kinds of people out to take advantage of vulnerable women.

Chocolate comes in at number two on the list of things requested by the women the organization helps. Rounding out the top five are hair ties, underwear, deodorant and feminine products, soaps and wipes.

To donate candy, or any of the other needed products, take donations to the drop box outside of Quirky Books at 120 Jefferson St. NE.
