The one-day exhibit of Pictures of Hope will benefit Albuquerque Public Schools students who don’t have a place to call home.
The photography exhibit features photographs by 15 APS students as part of the program created by photojournalist Linda Solomon. The program has served teens and children in more than 50 cities. The participating students and their families have received services through the district’s Title I McKinney-Vento Homeless Program.
For the exhibit, students used digital cameras to capture their hopes and dreams. The participants, ages 5-19, went through a photo tutorial with Solomon last month and were then given digital cameras and assigned adult mentors to take them through Old Town and the area near Albuquerque Museum to take photos for the exhibit.
Captions for some of the photos read, “My dream is for food to eat,” “ My dream is to help the homeless,” “My dream is to help my community,” and “My dream is to live in a big house so our whole family can get together and have birthday parties.”
The photos will go on display for one day at 10 a.m. July 13 in the Albuquerque Museum. The photographers will be on hand to discuss their pictures, which will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the students and their families.
