Three Albuquerque Academy football players were recognized for their achievements on the field and in the classroom. Class of 2023 Chargers Kellan Gehres and AJ Rivera, and Class of 2024 Charger Brody Whitaker were named National High School Coaches Association All Americans for the 2021-22 school year.

Gehres and Whitaker were named Academic All Americans Second Team, and Rivera was named Academic All Americans Honorable Mention. To qualify for the honors, nominees had to have at least a 3.6 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

According to the NHSCA website, the association’s mission “is to provide leadership and support to coaches and their programs.” To accomplish their mission, the association says it will “promote safety, provide educational support, celebrate excellence and communicate the benefits of participation in sports to each community.”
