School ratings are a major factor for prospective homeowners trying to decide what neighborhood to buy in.

The Neighborhood Journal will feature a different school in the Northeast and Northwest Albuquerque three times a week to help you understand how schools in those neighborhoods are performing.

Below you will find stats and rankings from Greatschools.org that will help you navigate the school scores in your neighborhood.

Tony Hillerman Middle School

Tony Hillerman Middle School (THMS) opened in August 2009. THMS had the distinction of being named after the famed author, Tony Hillerman.

THMS has a 6/10 rating, and seven reviewers have given the school three out of five stars. THMS is ranked fifth out of 29 middle schools in Albuquerque Public Schools.

The GreatSchool Summary Rating, which includes test scores (7/10), academic progress (5/10) and equity (5/10), is 6/10 for THMS.

The school has 1,207 students in grades 6-8, a ratio of 19:1 students per teacher.

One reviewer wrote: “My son attends this school and they keep him motivated with a wide range of extracurricular activities to choose from. They give a lot of incentives for students to keep their grades up. I’m very happy with his education his first year there.”
