Former Volcano Vista standout guard and current University of New Mexico freshman basketball player Natalia Chavez announced on Twitter Tuesday that she has signed a Name, Image, Likeness deal with Degree Deodorant’s Breaking Limits Team.

The deal includes undisclosed monetary payments and access to a mentorship program that will help athletes achieve their goals and help advance their future career. The deal also gives athletes a platform to share their stories and gives them a community program to support local projects such as visiting youth organizations, according to the press release.

Chavez was a star at Volcano Vista, leading the hoops team to back-to-back state championships and an undefeated season in 2022.

The Breaking Limits Team is Degree’s way to get into the NIL space by taking a more thoughtful approach to partnerships with college athletes.

Degree hopes to ensure more college athletes have the opportunity to benefit from their years of hard work and dedication, and their untold stories are shared.  Degree is committed to giving college athletes from a diverse set of schools, sports and backgrounds, a platform to share their stories and inspire the confidence in everyone to break down barriers and push limits.

Chavez is a business major at UNM and begins her first season with the Lobos with an exhibition game against West Texas A&M on Oct. 29. Chavez grew up playing in Cochiti Pueblo.

Chavez hit one of the most memorable shots in state basketball tournament history in 2021 when she made a shot from half-court at the buzzer to win the state title for the Hawks.
