After both the boys and girls basketball teams at Volcano Vista High School made history with undefeated, state-championship winning seasons, it’s no surprise that plenty of postseason awards would follow.

Several accolades came this week as the New Mexico High School Coaches Association released its 2022 All-Metro teams and individual award winners.

It was a clean sweep of the individual honors for the Hawks.

Girls coach Lisa Villareal was named Class 5A Coach of the Year, senior guard Kennedy Brown was Defensive Player of the Year, and senior wing Natalia Chavez earned Player of the Year.

For the boys, Greg Brown won Coach of the Year, senior guard Oscar McCoy was Defensive Player of the Year, and senior wing J’Kwon Hill was Player of the Year.

Joining Chavez on the girls First Team were senior Jaelyn Bates and sophomore Taejhuan Hill. Brown was named to the Second Team.

Senior Kaden Valdez joined J’Kwon Hill on the boys first team with McCoy being named to the third team.
