No, the city does not have plans to install bathrooms at Northeast Heights park locations anytime soon. The port-a-potties at Heritage Hills Park are temporary, most likely to accommodate construction workers at the park who were working on the water system earlier this month.
Drew Ayotte, spokesperson for Albuquerque’s Parks and Recreation Department, said port-a-potties are usually only at parks temporarily. “I don’t think there’s any projects for bathrooms,” Ayotte said. Other than the bathrooms at North Domingo Baca Park, no other Northeast Heights park provides a place for patrons to relieve themselves.
There are plans to make improvements at some park locations, however. “I know that right now we are installing a bunch of new water fountains, upgrading, repairing and installing new water fountains, but I don’t have a full list of those,” Ayotte said.
Other improvements include upgrading paths at some park locations. A construction crew was seen paving a portion of the walkways at North Domingo Baca Park earlier this week. Ayotte said he will know more about the budget and details of park projects after May 31, when the 2023 fiscal budget for the city is finalized.
